Bright Future for Pullman with New Superintendent Named to Lead National Monument

Statement by Lynn McClure, Midwest Senior Director for National Parks Conservation Association

“We welcome Kathleen Schneider as Pullman National Monument’s first official park superintendent. The Park Service’s swift process for filling this important leadership position shows their commitment to this historic site. Superintendent Schneider will be a great asset to Chicago’s first national park bringing, her most recent experience in transforming Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, the iconic Gateway Arch, in St. Louis.

“Superintendent Schneider’s experience to better connect the Arch to downtown St. Louis will be extremely valuable as we continue working with the Pullman community, the City of Chicago, State of Illinois and a host of partner groups to advance the vision in Positioning Pullman. In the short year and a half since Pullman was designated and the Positioning Pullman vision was launched, we have already seen improvements in CTA bus routing and Metra station renovations at 111th Street. And work will begin soon to renovate the existing Pullman Administration building into the park visitor center.

Things are really moving at Pullman and we look forward to working with Superintendent Schneider to help tell the story of this great urban national park.”
