National Parks Conservation Association (collectively “NPCA,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) recognizes the trust you have placed in us by providing your personal information through our website located at www.npca.org. Therefore, we have established this privacy policy to inform you of how we collect, use, and share that information.

Summary

The NPCA website was developed to inform users about the issues facing our national parks and our work to protect them. We provide the means for individuals to take action to protect parks for future generations. The information we collect online is intended to provide decision makers with necessary constituent information. With the exception of the affiliated National Parks Action Fund, we do not sell or rent our email list for other entities to contact you but, as described below, we may share your postal address with selected entities. NPCA, or the affiliated National Parks Action Fund, may, from time to time, contact you by mail or email. At any time, you can make changes to your email address and email preferences. You can also notify us of changes or request to be taken off our mailing list at npca@npca.org (or by clicking the unsubscribe link included at the bottom of every email message). If you would like to change your preferences regarding communications from the National Parks Action Fund, please contact them directly. Please read our full privacy policy below for more information.

Changes to this Policy

We may change any part of this policy, without any separate notice to users. The current policy will always be posted here. We will not change the purpose of this policy, which is to protect your privacy consistent with our goals as a non-profit membership and advocacy organization dedicated to protecting America’s national parks.

Personal Information Collected

We collect personal information when you choose to provide it to us including your name, mailing address, email address, payment card information, and other information that you choose to provide. For example, when you choose to make a contribution to NPCA, we need to know your name and mailing address. For online contributions, we also need to know your email address and payment card information. If you make an account on our website or become a member of NPCA, we may also collect your username, password, and NPCA member number. We may also receive your personal information from third parties as described below. If you apply for a job with NPCA, we may collect any information you provide in your application, including, but not limited to, educational background, employment history, and references. If you prefer not to contribute online, contributions also may be made by printing out this PDF form and mailing it to Member Services, NPCA, 777 6th St., NW, Ste. 700, Washington, DC, 20001, or by calling 800.628.7275 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.

We may use the information that you provide or that we otherwise collect for any lawful purpose, such as to provide the services and communications that you request.

Technical Information and Use of Cookies

When you use our website or interact with our email, we (or our third-party partners as described below) may automatically collect certain technical information including your IP address and other device identifiers, information about your visit and use of the website, and information about your device. We (or our partners) gather this data using cookies, pixels and similar technologies so we can understand user needs and personalize their experience on our website. Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on your computer to make visiting and using our website easier. Cookies also help us improve your experience on www.npca.org.

Email Addresses

With the exception of the affiliated National Parks Action Fund, NPCA does not sell or rent our email list to other entities for them to contact you.

Registered subscribers can remove their names from our email list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included at the bottom of every email message. You can also request to be removed from our email list by contacting us at npca@npca.org. Please include your name, address and your email address that we send our messages to so we can expedite your request.

Mobile Phone Numbers

NPCA does not sell or rent the mobile phone numbers of our subscribers to other entities for them to contact you. Registered subscribers can remove their names from our mobile messaging list replying STOP to any NPCA text message. You can also request to be removed from our mobile messaging list by contacting us at npca@npca.org. Please include your name, address and your mobile phone number that we send our messages to so we can expedite your request.

Postal Mailing Lists

NPCA sometimes shares or rents its postal mailing list to other nonprofit organizations and companies that we feel you may be interested in hearing from. Please contact us at npca@npca.org if you do not wish us to share your postal address for these mailings. Be sure to include your NPCA membership number and/or your name, address and email address to help expedite your request.

Information Collected or Provided by Third Parties

We may obtain additional information (including personal information) about you from third parties, or allow third parties to collect information (including personal information), as described below. The third parties that collect information on our website may also collect information about your visits to other websites and online services over time.

  • Information from Third Parties. We may sometimes collect information about you from third parties we work with or through publicly available sources. We may combine that information with other information we collect through the website or that you voluntarily provide or authorize us to obtain. We do not have any control over the third parties that provide us with your information, including how they collect, process or disclose your personal information.

  • Device Information. We may use third parties to collect information about the device you use to visit the site, including device identifiers, device type, and operating system, if your device settings allow it.

  • Payment Transaction Information. If you donate online, your payment card information is processed by our service providers, which provide us with limited information about your donation.

  • Other Sources. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we may receive additional information about you, such as demographics from third parties. We may combine this with other information we have about you.

  • Website and Email Use. We use third parties to collect information about your interactions with our website and email. These services use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to measure how users interact with our website and email. We use this information to test and to improve our site, our services, and our communications (including fundraising and marketing), in order to provide you with a more relevant and meaningful experience.

  • Google Analytics. Among these services, NPCA uses Google Analytics to provide analytics services on our website. For more information about how Google Analytics collects and uses data when you use our website, visit www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/, and to opt out of Google Analytics, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/.

  • Online Interest-based Advertising. We may partner with third parties that collect information through cookies, pixels and other technologies on our website in order to provide you with ads on non-affiliated platforms. Some of those ads may be interest-based ads, meaning that they are intended to be relevant to you based on the information these third parties collect about your use of our website and other sites or apps over time, including information about relationships among different browsers and devices. NPCA adheres to the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”) Self-Regulatory Principles in connection with this interest-based advertising activity. If you would like to opt out of interest-based advertising on your device by companies that participate in industry self-regulation, you can visit www.aboutads.info/choices or networkadvertising.org/choices. You can opt out of NPCA’s interest-based advertising here. If you delete your cookies or use a different browser or mobile device, you will need to renew your opt-out choices exercised through the DAA tool. Note that electing to opt out will not stop advertising from appearing in your browser or applications. It may make the ads you see less relevant to your interests. Additionally, your browser may offer tools to limit the use of cookies or to delete cookies; however, if you use these tools, our website may not function as intended.

  • Contact Information. NPCA may work with trusted third-party partners that use cookies, pixels, and other technologies to recognize your device across non-affiliated sites over time, and provide us with your email address and/or mailing address from other sources. NPCA may use this contact information to provide relevant communications (including fundraising and marketing offers) to you by direct mail and email. Please contact us as described below if you would like to opt out of these offers from the NPCA, or if you would like more information about our third party partners, visit here.

Information Sharing

In addition to sharing personal information for specific purposes as described in other sections of this policy, we may share your personal information with:

  • With our affiliates (including the National Parks Action Fund as described above), which may use and share your information under their own privacy policies;

  • Any other service providers or agents that perform activities on our behalf, including vendors used for processing donations;

  • As part of a sale, merger, or acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our assets including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding;

  • With your consent or as otherwise disclosed at the time of data collection or sharing.

We may share information that has been de-identified or aggregated, or any other technical information, without limitation.

Links to Other Sites

As a service to our visitors, we sometimes provide links to other websites. A link does not denote an endorsement of those websites and NPCA is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites.

Our website may also include integrated social media tools or “plug-ins”, such as social networking tools offered by third parties. If you use these tools to share personal information or you otherwise interact with social media features on the website, those social media companies may collect information about you and may use and share such information in accordance with your account settings, including by sharing such information with the general public.
