Parks Depend on Clean Water, Air Protections Enforced by Agency
WASHINGTON – Below is a statement by Theresa Pierno, President and CEO of National Parks Conservation Association, following reports that President-elect Trump intends to nominate Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:
“Our national parks are among our country’s most treasured landscapes and historic places. Protecting our parks means protecting their resources. The same laws and policies that protect our drinking water, keep our air healthy and support responsible energy development are critical to the health and future of our national parks. To weaken or eliminate these protections is to threaten the future of our national parks.
“We have serious concerns about President-elect Trump’s reported nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency, and will be scrutinizing his record closely as the confirmation process gets underway. If Congress is committed to the lasting legacy of our national parks, it must confirm a nominee who will protect them.”
