Transparent process and sound science needed.
Background: Today the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced its plans to begin a public process to propose a rule this September that could remove Endangered Species Act protections for grizzly bears in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem, in and around Glacier National Park.
Statement by Sarah Lundstrum, Glacier Program Manager for National Parks Conservation Association
“The Northern Continental Divide grizzly population at Glacier National Park has seen much progress under the protection and defined recovery requirements of the Endangered Species Act. If the Department of Interior wants to move forward with any delisting effort for these bears, we need to review the details of their science and policy proposal as it unfolds. Protecting and maintaining this national park grizzly population for future generations is a top priority for NPCA.”
