Jeff Bridges: A Voice for Yellowstone Grizzlies

JACKSON, WY – National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) has teamed up with actor and Montana resident Jeff Bridges in defense of Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly bears. NPCA released new videos featuring Bridges to draw attention to the first Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly hunt in more than 40 years, scheduled to begin September 1 in Wyoming.

“Whenever I see a bear in the wild, it reboots my system,” says Jeff Bridges, in the new series of short videos. “We’ve really got to protect these bears.” The three short videos were filmed and directed by Chris Morgan Wildlife.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission recently approved hunting to begin this fall of 23 Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly bears. Grizzly bears including those that make their homes in and around Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks will be at risk from hunting. To date more than 38,000 NPCA members and supporters have sent letter to Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, asking him to halt the hunt.

The Wyoming grizzly hunt comes in response to the June 2017 removal of federal protections for Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzlies. The removal prompted lawsuits by National Parks Conservation Association and tribal and conservation groups, for the final rule’s failure to ensure the Yellowstone bears’ long-term health. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 30 in Missoula, Montana.
