Happy Birthday, Yellowstone!

America’s first national park turns 140 today. Yellowstone, which was founded in 1872 and has set the standard of excellence for the entire Park System, is a national gem with a diversity of natural and historic wonders that attract millions of visitors each year.

Fortunately, this park’s iconic geysers, abundant wildlife, trails, rustic architecture, and tranquil beauty endure with the ages. However, snowmobiles continue to shatter Yellowstone’s winter solitude. Snowmobile manufacturers are producing more powerful and noisier machines for Yellowstone than those previously promised. Park managers are deciding now whether to allow snowmobile use to continue–and potentially increase–within the park.
