Washington, DC – The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) congratulates Leslie Knope on her decision to join the National Park Service as Midwest Regional Director. The newly created position will keep Leslie in her hometown of Pawnee, Indiana.
The exciting announcement was made during the season finale of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.”
“NPCA is thrilled to welcome Leslie Knope to the National Park Service; a particularly fitting announcement, as we celebrate National Park Week,” said National Parks Conservation Association President and CEO Clark Bunting. “We appreciate that Leslie is already bringing innovative, cost-saving ideas to the Park Service by opening her new office within the Pawnee City Hall space. In joining the ranks of the National Park Service, Ms. Knope will continue to enhance and diversify the organization with her binder-organizing skills and tireless energy, both great assets as it prepares for its centennial celebration in 2016.”
“I am thrilled to be joining the National Park Service,” said Knope in a remarkably lengthy statement released simultaneously in a press release, internet post, and a series of voice mails. “It is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. I have already compiled a list of 50 projects I intend to complete in my first 100 days, which I will detail now… [Section omitted] …and I couldn’t be more excited!”
“As Leslie’s husband Ben accurately and eloquently stated as the two gazed upon the Presidio, Alcatraz, and other sites within Golden Gate National Recreation Area, ‘Your [Leslie’s] job would be to preserve the most beautiful places on Earth so millions of people can enjoy them.’ As NPCA works to protect and enhance our 401 national parks, we look forward to supporting and working alongside Leslie in her new role,” said Bunting.
Leslie will begin work with the National Park Service when Season 7 of “Parks and Recreation” premieres on NBC in September 2014.
