Greetings from Glacier National Park

Glacier NP was one of seventeen parks my friend and I visited in 1976. We left the New Haven area of Connecticut at the end of August and didn’t return under mid-November that year. I was 20 years old and although all the parks we visited throughout the west and the Pacific coast were amazing and beautiful all in their own way, Glacier NP was my favorite due to the tranquility and beauty of the northern rock mountains. We wanted to hike Logan’s pass trail but it was closed due to grizzly sightings. So we hiked the high line trail which was about ten miles along the rim of the mountains. About three quarters of the way through our hike a storm was coming in very fast so we made our way down off the mountain to the road that circled that area. We were lucky that just as it started to thunder and lightning a Ranger was passing by who picked us up and brought us back to our camp site. While there we hiked to glacier areas and saw deer, elk, marmot, birds, mountain lion, bear and grizzly. It is hard to explain how I felt as a young man and having that experience of such beautiful wilderness places, they left me awestruck and wanting for more. Since 1976 I have visited up to twenty nine NP’s some were revisited and some were new. I plan to retire soon and my plan has always been to visit as many of these wonderful places as I can. Maybe I won’t hike quite as much as when I was twenty.

Sincerely,
Pat
