Greetings from Glacier National Park

Jim Whilt was a government hunter, guide and lion trapper in Glacier Nat'l. Park in 1923 when my father, Mike Sweet, worked with him trapping mountain lions and shipping them all over the country for zoos and circusses. In a newspaper clipping, Whilt was headlined as “Poet of Rockies is Glacier Park’s Most Lyrical Booster.” My father kept a diary of his experiences while hunting during the winter months in the Park (Whilt apparently worked for 10 years for the government in the Park.) If you would be interested in publishing any of this information in your magazine, I would be happy to share further information.

Sincerely,
Audrey Miller

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park preserves more than a million acres of forests, alpine meadows and lakes with habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal life.

State(s): Montana

Established: 1910

“My father instilled in our family an appreciation for our country and the great outdoors. He worked for the Forest Service starting in the 1920's until he retired in the 1950's. His time working with Jim Whilt in Glacier National Park was obviously a tremendous experience in his life.”
