I have been a ‘parkie’ now for two decades. Much of that I worked in parks around this amazing country, and all this time I have searched for and through every park site I could visit. I have visited over 350 units so far.
Different family members have visited me at different locations, and this past May I was finally able to get three family members and myself together at a national park - for the first time. We took my mom to Mammoth Cave for a Mother’s Day extended weekend. Mom fell in love with the place, and was even able to get down into the caves on one of the easier cave trips. Mom also spent plenty of time above ground, hiking and exploring.
This trip is the embodiment of why our national parks are important to this country: We as a family learned about our national park service, this amazing national park, the natural resources, including the geology and the dangers bats are going through now, and we also explored the historical significance of this place - the old churches, the uses of the caves over time, and so many more things. We met people from other cultures and countries, and this place became dear to us.
Sincerely,
Mammoth Cave National Park

“They protect and keep the lands I hold dear. They fight a hard fight against oil, crime, climate change and vandalism, and I fight this fight with them to protect these most significant lands we have set aside for future generations, for a safe place where the wild creatures can continue to live in safety, and to keep these places where the memories last safe.”
