I had never seen Crater Lake in the snow and was determined to do so. There was some in the forecast one night last year when I happened to be passing through the area so I spent a chilly night in my tent just outside the park before driving in at 5am the next morning. I got to the lake just in time to see a tiny bit of sunrise light hitting the freshly snowed-on Wizard Island. I was the only person there until a ranger came by to let me know the park was being closed for snow clearing. It was a peaceful and magical morning I’ll never forget!
