I like to call this photo ‘Yellowstone or Bust.’ In 1949, my mother and dad and their seven kids crowded into the new station wagon and set out on the journey from Southern Illinois to points west, ultimate destination, Yellowstone National Park. It was a wonderful experience, staying in a cabin in Yellowstone, photographing 'Old Faithful’ and other natural attractions, seeing bears up close, and making memories we have shared for a lifetime. Since then I have spent time in many more of our national parks, and developed a great pride and affection for these places, that we as a nation have preserved and maintained with our tax dollars and our love.
Sincerely,
Yellowstone National Park
America's first national park is named after the river that runs through it. Within the park's massive boundaries, visitors can find mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and some of the most concentrated geothermal activity in the world. The park has 60% of the world’s geysers, as well as hot springs and mud pots. It is also home to diverse wildlife with the largest concentration of mammals in the Lower 48 states, including grizzly bears, wolves, bison and elk.
