I spent my first years of college in the early 1970s in the Redwood Region of California and did not return until my wife and I visited Redwood National Park in 2011. This picture is of my wife displaying the usual reaction of most people when they first get up close to the overwhelming beauty of the redwoods. That we saved so few of these wonders is a tragedy…but that we saved what we did is a triumph. It was a terrible, long, and bitter battle. I remember it well.
