Greetings from Shenandoah National Park

Our family has been camping in Shenandoah every summer for the last 10+yrs. Although our children are all grown and have moved on with their lives, we still manage to attract one or two each year to join us on our week long tent camping trip. We don’t cover as much ground hiking as we used to, but the beauty and quite of the park always recharges our batteries and reminds us how very important the animals and the forests truly are. This year our son and his friend, who had never camped before, joined in. Watching his friend experience the wonder of the camp and surrounding park and hikes was a real treat. We hope he remembers to someday visit and enjoy the gift of our father’s father and support the wonderful National Parks.

Sincerely,
Greg

Shenandoah National Park

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, Shenandoah features rolling tree-lined hills, wooded hollows, spectacular waterfalls and a diversity of wildlife, all easily accessible from the scenic Skyline Drive. The park preserves a remarkable slice of southern Appalachian natural history and beauty with a dazzling array of recreational opportunities.

State(s): Virginia

Established: 1935

“It is the most important gift we hand down to the next generation. Many, sadly, will never stop to enjoy this gift, but many others will come to love and cherish this gift of natural beauty. I believe those beyond our years will need these islands of nature even more than we did due to the ever growing demand on our Earth's resources, space and daily pressures.”

My best boy Winston and I stayed at Skyland and spent three days hiking in the park. The staff at the visitor center were so nice and helpful - pointing out hikes that were suitable for my "senior dog".
