Greetings from Cape Cod National Seashore

“A man may stand there and put all America behind him.” Henry David Thoreau My parents and I began traveling to North Truro, MA and camping on Cape Cod before and immediately following the sea shore’s protection by a National Seashore designation. It was an amazing place for a girl “ bred among the mountains” to behold… an ocean in its full, beautiful glory spread out in all directions…to enjoy, to explore, to admire. I loved those summer two week adventures with sand between my toes, the smell of salt and seaweed lingering in my hair, my body warmed and browned by the sun and my muscles worked by the power of waves and the stretch of the sand. It was glorious to get up every morning, eat a breakfast from the grace of a Coleman stove and a caring mother… and trek to a perfect spot on an endless stretch of fine sand beach. Wasn’t every spot perfect? Here I learned to take refuge and strength from the beauty and power of the Earth. A lesson I continue to use now six decades later —after exploring the beauties and wonders of our great country stored within so many of our national parks over the years. The parks were always part of my journey, provided exceptional, remarkable experiences, and unsurpassed beauty — I shall never forget.
