This series of missions stretch along the east side of the Sandia Mountains, near Albuquerque, NM. A really interesting, and somewhat off the beaten path place to visit. Here was a blending of the old world with native Americans and the Spanish missionaries bringing their culture up from Mexico along the Camino Real. I just loved walking through the remnants of kivas and churches side by side. The peace and quiet is tranquill.

The well-preserved Franciscan churches and Indian pueblos at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument have changed little since they were abandoned in the 1670s.
