Greetings from Grand Canyon National Park

I haven’t been to the Grand Canyon since I was 5 years old. Needless to say, I don’t remember too much of it. However, when my girlfriend and her parents took a trip this November for her birthday, I made some amazing memories this time! This picture was from our first day there. We arrived later in the day and stopped here at Mather’s Point. It was pretty chilly with the wind, but, you got that real Autumn feeling (one which is a little harder to find sometimes in Southern California) =P. Anyway, we got a great shot of the canyon from here. My girlfriend actually blindfolded me and walked me out to the point which was really cool! We even saw a couple of California Condors in flight around the Rim. Our second day, we took a little hike down Bright Angel Trail. There we could see people hiking by Indian Gardens down below. Looking over the massive cliff face gave you the feeling of almost being in the clouds, you were THAT high up! We took a little bit of a drive off path to have some lunch and were visited by a local Kaibab Squirrel. This little fella was pretty playful jumping back and forth in the trees and making all sorts of noises. That night, we caught a ranger presentation (as part of my Jr. Ranger process) on effects of the Colorado River and the dams in the park. We were lucky to be staying in a hotel this trip (even though we really wanted to tent camp) since it was in the lower 20s at night! A little low for a San Diego dude =P Anyway, our third and final day we awoke around 5:30 in the morning to go capture a sunrise at Mather’s Point. Man! I can’t tell you all the different variations of reds, oranges, yellows and all the glorious colors that came up on the Canyon walls that morning. All the pictures I took will NEVER do it justice to seeing in right there in person with some hot chocolate in hand. We traveled to Desert View to see the watch tower and see the Canyon upside down. That right there was a trip! Gave me a weird loss of gravity feeling but, I liked it =). All in all, we had an amazing stay and yes, I did become a Jr. Ranger as well ^{_^}
