Emely Garcia is an all-around outdoor enthusiast. Some of her favorite past times are long distance running, hiking, surfing, camping and skating. She is born and raised in Los Angeles she has an AA in Earth Science and a BS in Environmental Science and Management with a focus in Policy and Planning from Humboldt state.
She is passionate about environmental justice, community-based solutions, and environmental restoration and protection.
Emely’s passion in environmental advocacy began shortly after high school when she got a job as a photo journalist for a program teaching inner-city kids were LA County water comes from. After capturing those educational moments, and learning so much herself, she ditched the dream of wanting to become a photographer and became a lead volunteer with groups such as San Gabriel Mountains Forever Coalition, Sierra Club LA chapter, and Latino Outdoors. She is passionate about working/connecting with folks who normally don’t have access to our outdoor public spaces (be it on the trails or on the coast). Currently Emely works as the Beach Programs Manager at Heal the Bay a non-profit organization dedicated to making LA County’s coast and watersheds safe, healthy and clean for all.
