Message from the Board Chair & President

We love many things about our national parks. From their sweeping landscapes and the stories they preserve to the memories we make there with our friends and families, national parks hold a special place in our hearts. We know they’re special to you, too.

It’s why we are so honored to share the National Parks Conservation Association’s 2021 annual report with you. It reflects what parks mean to us all and showcases the work we have done together to protect them.

This was a year unlike any other. Despite the challenges we faced, we continued to recognize just how important national parks are to all of us, both as individuals and as a nation. Parks have provided places of healing and respite after a year indoors. They serve as spaces where Americans come together to speak out for justice and civil rights. And they are sacred places that preserve our nation’s rich and sometimes complicated history so we will never forget.

Together, we found new ways to explore and protect the parks we love. You participated in virtual Park Talks and explored parks through stories and images. You attended our first ever virtual Salute to the Parks event and participated in NPCA’s first silent auction. And this year, as ever, you continued your tireless advocacy for parks, successfully defending sites across the nation.

As we look to the future, we know we are entering a profoundly changed world. NPCA remains committed to our mission of protecting and preserving America’s national parks for present and future generations. We are working to ensure that parks thrive for another hundred years; that they tell the stories of all Americans; and that they are diverse and inclusive places where everyone feels welcome.

We are profoundly grateful for your support of NPCA and our national parks. These victories are a testament to your dedication to protecting the places you love most. None of it would have been possible without you.

Financial Summary

Thanks to the support and generosity of our more than 1.6 million members and supporters, NPCA finished fiscal year 2021 on June 30, 2021 in a strong position with a total revenue and gains of $52.9 million, proving that NPCA’s mission and message are as important now as ever before. For that, we are incredibly grateful.

NPCA remains committed to using our financial resources responsibly. You trust us to use your donations wisely, and we take that trust seriously. NPCA has worked to protect and enhance America’s National Park System for over 100 years, and thanks to your generosity, we will continue to fight to preserve our national parks for the next 100 years, too.
