• Staff and Media Personnel Katie Taylor Senior Communications Specialist, Media and Outreach Katie works on a variety of NPCA's issue areas to increase media coverage and understanding around our national parks and their preservation. They enjoy working on environmental justice issues, particularly climate change and expanding cultural and heritage national park sites across the U.S.
• Staff Joshua Jenkins Civil Rights Era Fellow Joshua Jenkins is coming from our NPCA Northwest office to join the Southeast team and will be based in Birmingham, working in Alabama and Mississippi. He’ll be supporting new park campaigns and heritage areas, building deeper connections focusing on the links between parks and community needs/desires.
• Park De Soto National Memorial Hernando De Soto was one of the earliest European explorers of North America. His expedition landed on Florida’s west coast in 1539, and he led his men on a five-year, 4,000-mile odyssey across the Southeast into what is now Arkansas. The park preserves tales of the expedition, along with historic armor, weapons and other period items. Visitors can also experience four distinct ecosystems along the park's half-mile nature trail on the south shore of the Manatee River at the mouth of Tampa Bay.
• Park Big Bend National Park Big Bend National Park features broad expanses of Chihuahuan Desert shrubland and grassland interspersed with smaller areas of high-elevation woodland in the Chisos Mountains. Rugged rocks and deep canyons along the Rio Grande are among the park's most striking features; wetlands and springs add to the park's biological diversity. Visitors can explore the rugged trails, seek out the colorful array of birds and wildflowers, and spread out on a blanket after dark enjoying some of the darkest night skies in the country.
